April 28, 2008 - Irving, TX: A flying start and not such a fantastic finish for Stewart Deane, the 36 year old U.S. Pro Golf Tour veteran from Arlington, TX. Deane, who’s originally from Brisbane, Australia, fired a six-over-par 76 in Sunday’s final round of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, finishing tied for 50th and taking home $15,213.72. Kevin Streelman and Tommy Gainey, who’ve both been members of the USPGT, failed to make the cut. The event was won by fellow Aussie Adam Scott.
After 36-holes at the Byron Nelson, Deane was one-under-per, en-route to his biggest payday in two PGA TOUR events, but a 72 on Saturday, followed by a 76 on Sunday, took Deane down the leader board. Earlier in the week, Deane told the Dallas Star-Telegram – “You've got to keep plugging away...If I can grab two or three more [strokes today] and keep going in the right direction... It's just so hard out there with the new golf course, and you take your chances when you get them.”
In 2006, Deane earned national and international fame by winning the Trump Million Dollar Invitational on Canouan Island in The Grenadines, a Major Championship of the USPGT. Deane defeated fellow Tour member Gibby Martens on the first sudden-death playoff hole, taking home the $1 Million check, handed to him by Donald Trump. Following the win, Deane made several television appearances, including “Cold Pizza” on ESPN2 and several shows on FOX Sports. |
